Programme Concept

Roots & Wings Programme Concept

The programme connects three questions: how we build trust in Rotary, how people find their place within the organisation, and how we turn our shared values into action. Public image is explored through our behaviour, relationships within clubs and the actual results of our work.

How the programme was created

The starting point was the wishes and suggestions people shared for discussion topics and practical activities. A Programme Community was formed to develop these contributions and bring them together into a coherent programme. This is a collaborative process: community members contribute to the content, formats and intended outcomes.

How the programme is structured

Friday begins with practical work on three skills: presenting Rotary clearly, creating an inclusive club environment and telling stories about the human change achieved through our projects. In the afternoon, we connect these skills to the broader conversation about trust — how our promises, values and behaviour relate to one another.

On Saturday, the focus moves to relationships across generations, belonging and lasting impact as part of club culture. World Polio Day connects these conversations with a shared cause and collective action.

The afternoon sequence is particularly important. Participants first identify a specific challenge in their club or district and a possible first step. They then enter the success stories session with a clear purpose: what should I listen for that could help me? Stories from eight districts offer examples of solutions, partnerships and approaches that can be adapted to other settings.

Why the programme is designed this way

Practical work, dialogue and examples complement one another. Participants can practise a skill, reflect on their own situation and find an applicable idea in the experience of others. Listening serves a specific purpose — to deepen understanding and help identify the next action.

The webinars, essay initiative and reading list provide opportunities to continue this work after the Summit.

The intended outcome is for every participant to leave with practical tools, useful connections and a realistic next step for their own club or community.
